The Pure Black Reference 8 came out of our desire to build the ultimate, purist 300B valve power amplifier.
Naturally, to optimise stereo imaging and separation, it had to be a monoblock, and that gave us the space to use an ultra rigid aluminium frame along with oversized power supplies and output transformers to deliver the highest possible sound quality from a 300B based power amplifier. This amplifier delivers 8W per chassis, and uses point to point wiring with Jensen capacitors, the whole amplifier is hand soldered and uses no PCB's anywhere in the design.
The Pure Black 8 is finished in high gloss black with seven layers of lacquer, giving a finish more commonly seen on a fine musical instrument than a piece of audio equipment, a fitting comparison given the sonic attributes of this amplifier. The top plate of the amplifier holds a single 300B triode valve, a 6SN7 driver with a 5AR4 rectifier, with a pair of transformers on each chassis, one power and one output transformer.
On the back panel of each amplifier is a high quality RCA input, three high quality five way binding posts, offering both 8 ohm and 4 ohm taps for optimal matching with your loudspeaker, and an IEC power inlet, allowing the use of aftermarket power cords if desired.
If you are looking for the ultimate realisation of the potential performance from a 300B valve, then look no further, the Pure Black 8 is the embodiment of everything you love about 300B amplifiers.
